Professional audio
The professional world has a wide ranging set of requirements for audio amplification, from high-quality studio monitoring equipment to very high-power products used for sound reinforcement.
Power levels can be measured in Kilowatts, so the efficiency of the amplifier is a key factor. As well as energy usage and thermal requirements, the weight is critical. These systems are installed and de-installed on a regular basis.
The efficiency of digital amplifiers is of obvious value, but so is digital implementation itself. Digital distribution of the audio signal, as well as control information (on/off, volume settings) is of immense value in distributed installations.
DDFA can match well with many of these applications.
Active studio monitors for example can benefit from DDFA bi-amped or tri-amped designs where each driver within the speaker unit is driven via an individual DDFA channel. In this case DSP resources can facilitate active crossovers and fine time delay can enable time alignment of drive units.
Sound reinforcement applications can benefit from DDFAs ability to accept a distributed digital audio input. |
